JackopierceJackopierce is one of the more famed Dallas Bands that play American alternative rock with a style focused on acoustic guitar tunes with smooth vocal harmonies. The core band is made up of Jack O’Neil and Cary Pierce. During the first ten years of their career they sold over 400,000 albums. Then they decided to pursue solo careers eventually reuniting again some time later. They currently perform shows from time to time to packed houses in Dallas and across Texas. Old 97’sAlthough this Dallas band is actually classified as alternative country, most folks classify them as “hyperactive cowpunk”. They started off playing in local bars and released their first album Hitchhike to Rome and eventually followed that album up with 9 more and an EP. With catchy tunes galore, this band has had its songs featured in many movies and TV series. A favorite of local Dallas Bands, this band’s live shows never disappoint. ToadiesThis Dallas/Fort Worth area rock band churns out driving hard rock tunes that give an uneasy eerie feel to them while captivating the listener with their story lines. This uneasiness clicks perfectly with the dark story line of their smash single “Possum Kingdom”. This band has broken up multiple times and played many so called last shows but like the Phoenix they keep rising again from the ashes to forge on anew. PanteraPantera was one of the famed Dallas bands that played thrash metal and during the 90’s was found in clubs performing to a whirling pit of thrashing bodies. One of the most popular of all Dallas metal bands, this group started to self destruct at the height of their popularity. Their lead singer Phil Anselmo began to dabble in other projects and eventually all the other members of the band went their separate ways forming other projects such as Damage Plan, Down, and Superjoint Ritual. The RebelsThe Rebels were one of the famed Dallas bands that played rockabilly and were formed in 1957 while the members were still in high school. They have performed hits such as School of Rock and Roll, Straight Skirt, Gotta Lotta That, and Twixteen. The band finally disbanded in 1961. Member of the band Gene Summers went on to purue a solo career and has still been touring and writing music. The BackslidersThe Backsliders band has been at the forefront of Dallas Bands since they formed in 2005 churning out great bluesy rock and roll songs. They band has an all star lineup featuring Nolan Theis from Deep Blue Something and Five times August, Kim Pendlton on Vocals, Chris Bonner on guitar, and Taylor Young from Young Heart Attack, and Polyphonic Spree on drums. This great Dallas band won the Best Blues Award from the Dallas Observer in 2007. Dallas Jazz OrchestraSince its inception in 1973, the Dallas Jazz Orchestra has entertained countless jazz aficionados with their own brand of big band jazz. They are featured on more than 100 radio stations and have released several albums. Many of the players in this band have gone on to perform with musical greats such as Woody Herman, Buddy Rich, Ramsey Lewis, an Stan Kenton. Nora JonesNora Jones is the the daughter of Ravi Shankar the famous Sitarist and has taken the world by storm with her smooth pop vocals and song writing with passionate feeling. Hailing from the Dallas, Texas suburb of Grapevine, she attended the High School for Performing and visual arts. She later garnered great commercial success with her four albums, Come Away With Me, Feels like Home, Not Too Late, and the recent 2009 release of The Fall. Her debut album won album of the year with the single Don’t know Why. She has blended country, smooth acoustic pop, and soul with jazz and has captivated music lovers around the world. The Dixie ChicksThe Dixie Chicks are one of the best-selling female country groups on the globe. This Dallas band was formed in 1989 and played clubs and small original music venues for quite some time before finally signing on with a major label and hitting it big. Their style is a combination of bluegrass, country, pop, and their lyrics chime about wide open spaces, cowboys and heartache. This amazing Dallas band has sold over 30 million copies of their albums and are a great live band with talented playing and spot on harmony vocals.

Dallas Live MusicWith the recent boom in the local music scene in Dallas, live music is as easy to find as beer. When it comes to bars and clubs specializing in live music, the options are seemingly limitless. Sultry jazz dens, blues-filled hotspots and country music joints are the main players in the scene, but even obscure styles of electronic music and psychedelic funk have a place to call home. Enormous dance floors at many spots allow for hours of dancing, especially when a hot Latin band takes to the stage with spicy salsa notes and salacious tango rhythms. There are live music clubs in Dallas that feature some of the most deafening rock bands around, and there are even places for hardcore Christian rockers to hear some serious Jesus-inspired metal songs. If anyone ever says that the live music scene in Dallas is limited, they’re either a big fat liar or they’re just plain dumb; in either case, don’t listen to them.
